Should You Choose Standard or Custom FRP Furniture for Your Project?

When a customer comes to us with a commercial furniture requirement, I do not always recommend customization.

Sometimes a standard product is the better choice.

The right decision depends on the design, quantity, project schedule, and how important customization is to the final space.

When Does Standard FRP Make Sense?

A standard FRP product can be a practical option when:

· The dimensions already fit your project

· You need a large quantity

· The design does not need major changes

· You have a tight production schedule

· Color and appearance requirements are relatively simple

If the product already meets your requirements, there is no reason to create additional molds or redesign the structure simply for the sake of customization.

For B2B buyers, keeping the manufacturing process simple can sometimes be the most efficient solution.

When Is Custom FRP the Better Choice?

Customization becomes more valuable when the product needs to follow a specific architectural or branding concept.

For example:

· The dimensions are site-specific

· The shape is unusual

· The furniture needs to match a theme

· You need a special color

· A designer has created a unique form

· Several products need to share the same visual language

· The project requires large decorative or sculptural elements

This is where FRP gives designers much more freedom than many standard furniture options.

At Chinor, we can work from CAD drawings, 3D models, renderings, sketches, or reference images. We then look at how the design can be converted into an actual production process.

Standard vs. Custom FRP

Requirement Standard FRP Custom FRP
Standard dimensions Excellent Excellent
Unique shapes Limited Excellent
Custom colors Limited Excellent
Architectural designs Limited Excellent
Themed furniture Limited Excellent
Prototype development Sometimes Suitable
Large custom installations Limited Suitable

The important point is that customization should solve a real project requirement.

It should not simply make the product more complicated.

What About Cost?

This is another question we hear frequently:

“Will custom FRP always cost more?”

Customization can increase tooling and development costs, especially when a completely new design requires a new master pattern and mold.

But looking only at the unit price can be misleading.

If a standard product does not fit the site, requires modifications after delivery, or does not achieve the intended visual effect, the project may eventually cost more.

For commercial projects, I recommend comparing the total project cost, not just the price of one piece.

What Information Should You Prepare?

Before we quote a customized FRP product, we normally need:

1. Drawing or reference image

2. Overall dimensions

3. Quantity

4. Indoor or outdoor application

5. Expected load

6. Color reference

7. Surface finish

8. Installation requirements

9. Delivery destination

10. Target delivery date

You do not necessarily need to have a perfect CAD drawing before contacting us.

A rendering, sketch, or reference image can be enough to start the technical discussion.

My Advice to Commercial Buyers

If your project uses standard furniture dimensions and requires large quantities, start by checking standard products.

If your project has a strong design concept, unusual dimensions, themed elements, or architectural requirements, custom FRP is worth considering.

At Chinor, we prefer to look at the actual project first and then recommend whether standard production or customization makes more sense.

You bring us the design. Chinor help you work out the manufacturing solution.
