What Are the 6 Must-Check Factors When Buying FRP Furniture?

At Chinor, we have been manufacturing FRP products in Huizhou, Guangdong for more than 20 years. Our factory produces FRP tables, chairs, benches, planters, sculptures and other customized products for commercial applications. Over the years, we have worked with overseas buyers on both standard products and custom projects, and one thing has become clear to us: the appearance of an FRP product is only part of the story.

When buyers compare FRP furniture suppliers, price and appearance are usually the first things they look at. From my experience, these are not enough.

Two products can look almost identical in photos but have very different internal structures, wall thicknesses, reinforcement, finishing processes and production costs.

This is especially important when sourcing FRP furniture for shopping malls, hotels, restaurants, resorts or other commercial spaces. The furniture may need to handle frequent use, outdoor exposure or specific dimensional requirements.

If you are sourcing FRP furniture for a commercial project, I recommend checking these six points before placing an order.

FRP Furniture

Load Capacity

For an FRP decorative object, load capacity may not be a major concern. But for tables, chairs and benches, it is important.

Think about where the furniture will be used. A bench in a shopping mall may be used by hundreds of people every day, while a decorative table in a showroom has a completely different requirement.

Ask the supplier about the internal structure, reinforcement and intended load rather than simply asking whether FRP is “strong enough.”

Wall Thickness and Reinforcement

The outside appearance doesn't tell you how much material is inside.

Wall thickness and fiberglass reinforcement affect the rigidity, weight and durability of the product. Large FRP furniture may also require steel reinforcement or other internal supports.

When comparing quotations, I suggest asking suppliers to clarify the basic construction. Otherwise, two prices may appear comparable when they actually refer to very different products.

Outdoor Finish

“Suitable for outdoor use” is not really a complete specification.

Outdoor furniture may be exposed to sunlight, rain, humidity and temperature changes. The surface coating and finishing process should therefore match the actual environment.

For a product going into a public park, resort or outdoor commercial space, I would confirm the proposed finish before production.

FRP Furniture

Dimensions

Custom FRP furniture is often made for a specific space, so dimensions matter.

A few centimeters can make a difference when a bench needs to fit between columns or a table needs to match an architectural layout.

For custom projects, confirm the important dimensions and tolerances before the mold is made.

Production Lead Time

Don't look only at the factory's production time.

A custom FRP order may involve design confirmation, mold making, prototyping, production, finishing, inspection, packing and shipping.

If a new mold is required, this needs to be included in the schedule from the beginning.

I normally prefer to calculate the production schedule backwards from the customer's required delivery date.

Surface Finish

For many FRP furniture projects, the surface is what customers notice first.

Glossy, matte, metallic, stone-effect and custom-painted finishes all require different preparation.

Especially for high-gloss or light-colored products, sanding and surface repair before painting are very important. A good finish starts with a good FRP surface.

Don't Compare FRP Prices Alone

Before comparing two quotations, make sure the specifications are actually comparable.

Check:

· Dimensions

· Structure

· Wall thickness

· Reinforcement

· Surface finish

· Packaging

· Production time

A cheaper quotation isn't necessarily a better deal if important specifications are missing.
